How is this free for me?
Law firms pay Legalbit a fee when they reply to an inquiry they receive through the platform. That is money a firm would otherwise spend on advertising to reach you — it just goes somewhere more useful. It is not a cut of anything you might recover, and it does not change what a firm charges you.
Does using Legalbit make someone my lawyer?
No. Legalbit is not a law firm and cannot give you legal advice. An attorney–client relationship starts only when you and a firm agree to it directly, in the normal way, with an engagement agreement.
Do you pick the firm that pays you the most?
No. Ranking is not for sale — the score has no payment term in it at all. Firms are ranked on how well they fit your specific situation and jurisdiction, the ratings other people have given them, and how quickly they actually reply. A firm that answers slowly or gets poor reviews is matched less often, regardless of what it pays.
What if the firm never replies?
Every firm has a response deadline — 24 hours by default. We warn them as it approaches and extend it once automatically. If it still lapses, we take it back and invite you to choose another firm, and the firm that missed it is matched less often afterwards. You are never left refreshing an inbox wondering whether you were forgotten.
What if my problem turns out not to be a legal one?
Sometimes what someone needs is not a lawyer. Rather than manufacture a match, Legalbit tells you plainly that it cannot identify a legal issue, explains why, and points you somewhere more useful. Our AI also scores its own confidence in what it thinks your situation is — when that score is low it asks another round of questions instead of guessing.
